I did run a repair disk permissions and all softwear updates where done. That's what the apple care guy said I should do. So it's seems to be the display right? If it would be the card, woulden't show the lines on my 32 inch tv?
Imac 27 late 2013 vertical lines screen tv#
This is what I've done: I have used the mirroing effect on the display system pref to see on my 32 inc tv if it would give the lines. I called the service store and the guy said it can be the card or the screen. Theres was a recall on those models for vertical lines but he says it's not the same type of issue. (iMac 27' late 2009) Lines are in batch of 3 and 5 inch appart, very thin an you have to get real close to see them. If anyone else is seeing this and took their machine in to Apple as a result, would love to hear how they resolved it. So I'll give some of those a go when I have a chance this weekend. He also offered some ideas straight out of Apple's display problem flowchart (connecting an external display, using the machine as a slave display to my MacBook Pro, seeing if the lines appear or disappear during different parts of the boot process, etc.) to narrow it down to different hardware subsystems. He had no "ah, that's definitely " ideas, saying it could be anything as simple as a pinched display cable (how would that happen in an iMac?) to a failing 4850 to a failing screen. I e-mailed all of this to a friend who used to be a lead Genius. But at least now I feel like I have a baseline and can monitor them. I really can't say whether the lines are getting any worse, or even how long they've been there as I only noticed them by accident earlier today. Very helpful! My iMac gets used similarly: It's my primary work machine, turned on 24/7 and in active use easily 9-10 hours a day during the week.

Honestly, I don't feel compelled to do anything about it since they're only marginally visible on a normal screen full of different objects, but if they're an early warning sign of failure, I want to be prepared (HINT TO APPLE: UPDATE THE DAMN iMACS, PLEASE) If I focus on any one spot on one of the lines, it appears to be moving upwards - sort of like the "marching ants" around a selection area in Photoshop, but moving much faster.Īny ideas what this may be? Sign of age? Imminent failure? Anyone seen this before? The lines themselves are "moving" for lack of a better word: There's a "chase" or a "pulse" to them. On a white or very light background, they disappear entirely.
At normal working distance they are not visible, or only faintly visible if I really focus on a solid dark area. solid black or dark gray), the more visible they are, although they're still only noticeable if I put my nose up close to the screen.
The darker and more even the background (e.g. On my 27" 2009 iMac screen, I've started to notice thin, faint, vertical lines - evenly spaced. You know what my favorite problems are? The ones that are nearly impossible to describe.
